We're sorry to have to tell you that The Edge advanced
scheme has been withdrawn by the MCIA. It's agreat loss.
This scheme was fully
operational in Kent. Kent Police had authorised 4 Class
1 riders to undertake the assessments so, in theory,
you could have applied for assessment right now.
Training Schools had been
appointed by The Edge for this area. Channel Rider Training
were the first, although they hoped other schools would
"gear up" and meet their criteria, to make
this scheme as accessible as possible to all riders.
In practice, training in
preparation for the assessment was needed by most riders.
The Edge syllabus covered a wider range of skills than
other Advanced Riding schemes, including:
Suspension set-up
Tyres, brakes etc.
Group riding techniques
Scene of Accident
Bike security
Advanced riding techniques of course!
Again, to make this scheme
as accessible as possible, we offered our candidates
a home study pack to cover the technical sides of the
scheme and minimise training costs for you. People training
with us got this free of charge, covering all the non-riding
elements of their test.
Advanced Riding courses have
been available from us for some time; all our Advanced
Instructors have been trained by Police Class 1 Instructors
to train our candidates.
So, where do you go from
here ?
We recommend that you train
for another of the Advanced qualifications now. At the
moment that's IAM, BMF, RoSPA etc (go to the links page).
The Advanced Riding techniques can be learnt and then
sufficiently practised to impress your assessor.
The remainder of the course
elements will follow while you practise, leading to
your assessment when you're confident you have mastered
the necessary breadth of both riding and technical skills.
We can "mock-test"
you before you go for your assessment.
We'll get you there.
